Austin Allegro Crayford Convertible
The absolute nadir for any British Leyland apologist, the Allegro Crayford Convertible was the Kent-based convertor’s least successful car, with a grand total of 17 built before the plug was pulled, largely down to quality control issues. This example returned to the road less than a week before the show, and was lovingly restored by its owners George Beresford and Roger Feist, who drove it up from Strood, Kent. It was the car’s first journey of more than 100 miles in over 30 years…

The grill and body side mouldings would indicate a "Mk2" (with the rod gearchange). Also, the front bumper has a "bullnose" centre - I believe this is from an ADO 73, i.e. Mk2 Marina. I was an apprentice at Cowley from 1969-73, and worked at Cowley until 1983. I owned both Mk1 and Mk2 Maxis. The Maxi was ahead of it's time (well, just behind the Renault 16), but like all BL products, it was left to the customers to do the development work. Cowley was the poor relation with head office being at Longbridge.
