Top 10: Classic car names that made a comeback
Every car manufacturer, it seems, is cashing in on their heritage – and that’s no bad thing, as it clearly proves that classic cars are as important to the industry as they are to enthusiasts. Here are 10 of the greatest names to make a comeback…
BMW MINI
The return of the MINI name in 2001 came less than a year after the original BMC Mini had finally bowed out after an astonishing 41-year career. Bigger, brasher and bolder, the new MINI was the one part of Rover Group that BMW had kept hold of following the ignominious divorce between the brands in 2000. The new car, as such, polarised opinion. Not liked by enthusiasts for not being a ‘proper’ Mini, nor being British owned, the car was, nonetheless, developed by Rover Group before the BMW split, built at Cowley and, most importantly, a fantastic little car. In the ensuing 14 years, MINI has become a brand in its own right.
