Volkswagen Beetle

The Volkswagen ‘New’ Beetle has now been around for an astonishing 17 years, and is now in its second incarnation. Both variants were based on the platform of the contemporary Golf, the original being built on the versatile floorpan of the Mk 4 Golf, which also underpinned the Audi A3 and A4, Skoda Octavia and Seat Leon. Of all of the Mk 4 spin-offs, the Beetle was the least practical, but certainly the most distinctive, complete with its built-in dashboard flower vase. Go for the diesel convertible variant if you want the full ‘clattery Beetle’ experience.
