Jaguar XJ (X308)

While it might have looked exactly like the outgoing version (and in many ways it was), the new for 1997 XJ was all about the new V8 engine. The fun one was the supercharged 4.0-litre V8 but N/A 4.0- and 3.2-litres were also available. Huge luxobarges like this are great value – expensive when new, loaded with kit, and now as cheap as chips. Ok, so they’re not for the feint-hearted and you’ll need a bit of luck to avoid a money pit, but they’re still a great car to waft about it.
