Lamborghini Islero GT (1968 – 1970) Review

Lamborghini Islero GT (1968 – 1970) At A Glance

4/5

+Wonderful V12 Lamborghini engine, still fast even by today's standards, a great long-distance tourer

-If not cherished it will be unreliable, styling curiously bland, driving position compromised

Given the cars that came before and after, it's easy to forget the Lamborghini Islero. But to do so would be a grave injustice, as like all Lamborghinis of this era, it's a great, if flawed, drive with copious performance and a V12 soundtrack to die for.

The Islero was introduced at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show, and although it was not as aggressively styled as the Espada or Miura, it was a perfect (relatively) understated GT for the man who needed to cross continents. The Islero ended up being the first Lamborghini to be kitted out with a generous equipment list. It offered benefits such as air conditioning and larger interior - and was clearly designed with one eye on the American market.

The GT S version followed in 1969, but only lasted a year, as it was replaced by the challengingly styled Jarama 400GT.
