Nissan Micra: 30 years in pictures
The Nissan Micra, so long considered a mainstay of British street car furniture, celebrates its 30th birthday this year. It initially supplemented the Nissan Cherry on the UK market, slotting in below that car striking at the heart of the supermini market.
Within three years, the Micra was Nissan's sole representative in the supermini market - and it proved extremely popular, especially with young drivers. The 2005 Nissan Micra C+C was designed at the new London-based Nissan Design Europe studio, and developed at the Nissan Technical Centre Europe at Cranfield. It had an electric folding glass roof that was built by Karmann coachworks in Germany - and boasted a reasonably commodious 2+2 seating layout. It was originally built for Europe, it was exported back to Japan in 2007.
