20 cars you must see at this year's NEC classic

These are the 20 finalists in this year's Pride of Ownership competition at the NEC. It's a mix that includes traditional British classics, an American muscle car, an original adventurer, and a fire-breathing hot rod.

You can see them all at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 November. Twenty finalists in total will be looking to win visitor votes, with the winner announced on show Sunday afternoon.

Andy Crockett – 1941 Willys Coupe

A ‘468’ Chevrolet injected and ‘blown’ engine producing 700bhp, a cabin trimmed in cream coloured leather and a body finished in ‘Apple Red Candy’ – it would be fair to say that Andy Crockett’s 1941 Willys Coupe ‘Street Rod’ would stand out in any crowd. Before it was exported to the UK in 2015, it was the long-term property of the racer Ronnie Sutton and the Willys is a trophy winner on both sides of the Atlantic. Best of all, it is an actual, genuine, fire-breathing dragster.

I recall when the Marina came out BL advertised: "Torsion Bar Front Suspension, as used on the E Type". Actually no, the torsion bar system was "as used on the Morris Minor". S Registration (1977) would have put this example right in the middle of the Red Robbo / Industrial Strife era when BL's reputation was being hammered by the imports. Nice example but I'm sure way more Marinas live on in kit cars as underpinnings and drive trains.
