Bumper turnout for Pistons and Props motoring festival

More than 13,700 people made the trip to Northamptonshire for the Footman James Sywell Classic Pistons and Props motoring festival – one of the event’s best-ever turnouts.

Highlight of the show, which was held over the weekend of 27-28 September, was the ‘racing runway’ where the Martini-liveried Lancia LC2 reached a top speed of 192mph - only to be beaten by the KTM racing bike which tipped 195mph.

Both were eclipsed, however, by the the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster Bomber, accompanied by the Hurricane and Spitfire to create a stunning air display.

This year, more than 76 classic motoring clubs took part in the two-day event, showing a wide range of classics from Ford GT40s to Morgans, Corvettes and even caravans. And that meant a 1200-strong car display.

Crowds were wowed by displays from The Historic Rally Car Register, UK Street Machines, classic motorbikes and – up in the sky – The Blades and the Yakovlevs aerobatic display teams.

Away from the on-track and in-air action, there was a vintage fair, a classic trader village and music from Elle & the Pocket Belles as well as rockabilly band The Houndogs.
