Published 09 November 2018

Historics 24th November Classic Car Auction at Mercedes Benz World, Brooklands features two rare Porsche-built W124 500Es.

The 1990 to 1995 Mercedes-Benz 500E was created in co-operation with Porsche; each car being hand-built by Porsche and transported back and forth between the Mercedes-Benz plant and Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen. The 5.0 litre V8 engine and brakes came from the R129 SL500. 4cm wider track required flared wheelarches. Heated leather electric seats by Recaro. Left hand drive only. Top speed 161mph. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.

500E Lot 222 was originally sold new and lived in Italy where the last service was carried out before its arrival in the UK last February. Finished in black with a black leather and fabric interior, it comes with an electric sunroof, electric windows, an original Becker stereo and twin air bags.  Supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate expiring in February 2019, the car comes with its book pack and a complete, fully stamped, service book. The car featured in the Italian magazine Auto d’Epoca and a copy is included in its history file. Odometer reading 240,000 kilometres. Estimated at £18,000 to £24,000.
