DB5s command top money at Aston-only sale

Published 06 June 2018

Two DB5s were the starts at Bonhams’ Aston sale – proving that when it comes to Astons, buyers prefer to play it safe. The DB5 Sports Saloon sold for £628,700 while a 1965 DB5 Convertible made £886,300 with both going to bidders in the room.

Both DB5s were part of the Aston Martin Sale held at Englefield house on Saturday, 2 June. The sale attracted interest from all over the globe and saw 90% of lots sold with a total sale figure of £4,474,499.

It wouldn’t be an Aston sale without a barnfind and a pair of projects were on offer. A 1951 Aston Martin DB2 Sports Saloon which achieved £66,460 and the 1954 Aston Martin DB 2/4 Mark II DHC (pictured below) which had travelled all the way from Massachusetts realised £225,500.

Further highlights of the sale included the ex-Jools Holland 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Mk1 Volante which sold for £494,300 and the eye-catching 1958 Aston Martin DB MkIII DHC which achieved £395,500.

Also selling well were a 1959 Aston Martin DB4 Series 1 Sports Saloon (£371,100), a 1956 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mark II 3.7-Litre Coupé (£281,500), and a 1980 Aston Martin V8 Volante Convertible (£163,900).
