Jaguar C-type set for Monaco auction

An ex-Le Mans Jaguar C-type could fetch up to £3.9m when it goes under the hammer at Bonhams Monaco Grand Prix Historique auction later this month. Said to be the world’s finest, as-original, running, long-term C-type, POV 114 has been in single-family ownership since 1963. The car will be the star of the 13 May sale.

It’s a packed catalogue that also includes a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix two-seater, first owned by ‘Bentley Boy’ Glen Kidston. Chassis No '4450' was the nineteenth such Grand Prix Bugatti to be manufactured, and boasts a racing heritage that includes drivers George Duller, Vivian Selby and Lyndon Ducket. It is estimated to fetch up to £1.2m.

A 1991-1992 Benetton-Ford B191/191B Formula 1 car driven by world champions Michael Schumacher and Nelson Piquet is also for sale, worth up to £221,000.

De Tomaso Vallelunga could sell for up to £284,000.

Also offered is the 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport Supercharged Spider. This interwar period sports-racer was one of the most popular and successful of its day, and is estimated to sell for up to £1.9m.

But it’s not all about race cars. One of the first ever production cars from De Tomaso is also for sale. Just 53 Vallelunga were built and this one has been restored, finishing second in class at the Villa d’Este concours in 2004. It could sell for as much as £284,000. 

Other sale highlights include a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS, estimated at up to £1.6m; and a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso Berlinetta, estimated at £1.5m. There’s also a 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS Touring Coupé, estimated at £451,000; and a 1967 Maserati Ghibli Coupé, estimated at £300,000.
