Land Rover 110 V8 Country Station Wagon for CarFest auction

Published 08 July 2015

A Land Rover 110 V8 Country Station Wagon could make £21,000 when it heads to auction over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The car – which some enthusiasts view as the ‘ultimate’ Land Rover Defender – will be offered for sale by Classic Car Auctions at CarFest South on 29 August.

Launched in 1983, this 12-seater came with the same 3.5-litre engine and gearbox fitted to the Range Rover. The model also had improved interior trim, as well as distinctive body stripes.

Registered on 1 January, 1984, this is one of the earliest examples built. It features the rare sliding windows, flush door handles, and seat-box mounted high- and low-range gear selector lever.

Only a handful built to this specification are believed to have left the Lode Lane factory and it is possible that this 110 was a pre-production or even a press car.

Subject to a long and painstaking ten-year restoration, this unique example combines originality with some modifications.

It sits on a galvanised Richards chassis and features a new Rover V8 3.5-litre supplied by Dunsfold Land Rover. All mechanical parts have been either replaced or fully overhauled.

The bodywork has been painted in Rolls-Royce Nutmeg Brown with the rare and correct, new old stock ‘County stripes'.

The seats have been re-trimmed in the hard-to-find period Land Rover cloth, while the original headlining has been retained. It has clocked up just 100 miles since its restoration.

The sale of the car comes as the final ever Defender rolls of the production line later this year, ending 67 years of production at the Solihull plant.
