Benzes aplenty at Anglia Car Auctions' November sale

Published 29 October 2013

A trio of Mercedes-Benz Pagodas lead the line for Anglia Car Auctions' upcoming sale at King's Lynn on 9 November. The 230SL was once owned by BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, while an ex-New Zealand 190SL (below) will prove that Pagodas won't have it all their own way.

Chris Evans sold the 230SL in 2001, and since then the car has been under the care of one of the UK’s leading Pagoda specialists. While it could benefit from a cosmetic refresh, with tax and MoT for a full year the blue SL is ready to use. It is expected to reach between £18,000 and £22,000.

A 1971 280SL resides at the other end of the spectrum. It has covered 58,000 miles from new with the same loving owner, and is original, aside from its front wings - which have been professionally replaced by Mercedes-Benz. Its estimate is £48,000-60,000. The final Pagoda in the sale is a 1965 230SL, which has been imported from the USA, and is described as the ideal basis for a winter Pagoda project.

The 1956 190SL is a left-hand drive example, that was imported to the UK from New Zealand in 2011 and has been with the same family for the past 25 years. With an estimated price of between £55,000 and £60,000. It has recently benefitted from a new hood, chromework and carpets.

For those looking for something a little more practical there’s a 1985 W123 280TE Estate. Another car benefitting from extensive service history, it’s expected to fetch in the region of £4000-£5000. More modern Mercedes-Benzes are also well covered, with a 1991 300 GEL Auto, a 1994 W124 E280, a 1994 S600 Coupe a pair of 1990s SLs and a 1999 SLK230 Kompressor Designo also included in the sale.
