THE GUARDIAN

Another car workers dispute ended when the "togging-up" strike which has hit production at four Leyland plants in the Midlands was called off last night. The dispute was resolved by exempting the strikers' 120 scalers at the Pressed Steel Fisher car body factory in Birmingham from a national overtime ban which stopped them being paid £8 a week extra for putting on and taking off their overalls , masks, and other protective clothing.

The scalers will return to work on Tuesday, with 1,800 men laid off al the Birmingham factory. More than 2,000 other workers will be back the same day at two Jaguar factories in Coventry.
