2200 sent home at Leyland

All car production except that of the Maxi stopped at British Leyland's Cowley plant yesterday and 2,200 workers were sent home following a strike by 200 transport drivers. The drivers walked out two days ago over a manning dispute.
Without their services assemblv lines cannot be kept supplied with components. The men laid off have been asked to report for work on Monday in the hove that the strikers will agree to return at a meeting also called for Monday. The stamping and forging shop at the group's Longbridge works has been closed and 300 men laid off because of a production bottleneck caused by disputes at outside components' firms.
