Sit-Down Strike Makes 500 Idle

Five hundred Morris Minor assembly workers at Morris Motors, Oxford, were sent home at midday today because of a sit-down strike at one of the British Motor Corporation's Birmingham factories. The men were told to report back for work on Tuesday. Five hundred men on the night shift work tonight but will not report again until Tuesday night.

Output at Nuffield Metal Products. Birmingham, which makes bodies for the Minor, has been held up by the stoppage of 1,000 members of the National Union of Vehicle Builders. They are demanding average piece-work earnings for waiting time. periods when work is temporarily held up because of a lack of components.
