£87m from exports of Land Rovers

2 December 1959

THE GUARDIAN

The two hundred and fifty thousandth Land Rover has been produced at the Solihull (Warwickshire) factory of the Rover Company, Ltd. Mr Geoffrey Lloyd Dixon, executive director (sales), when he received the model on behalf of the sales department, said that it had taken eleven years to reach the quarter million figure, but he added that present production rates indicated that the half-million would be reached in only another six years.

Mr Lloyd Dixon said that 183,266 (or 74 per cent) of the 250,000 models produced went to export markets. These Land Rover exports earned more than £87 millions. They went to 157 markets, of which the principal was Australia, with nearly 28,000, followed by Belgium with more than 10,000, and British East Africa with nearly 10,000.
