Bringing back old brands- Friday trivia

Bell Boys post got me thinking.

If you had millions to invest and wanted to bring back an old car name from the past, what would it be and what sort of car would you build?

I'd quite like to see Triumph come back with a lightweight sports car to rival Lotus.

Agreed, seems BMW were/are considering it :

No doubt if they did it though, it would be overpriced like the MINI.

I'd also like to see Jensen back. I'm sure it's been resurrected a few times already though.

Interesting. I don't read AE so had no idea of BMW's plans but seems great minds think alike eh?
;-)

I'm surprised the Chinese haven't considered resurrecting more brands other than MG.

Austin-Chin-Wung-Sui

Cheap chineese cars based on the chasis of a Cortina and all the safety features of a Rover 100. Costs £5995 and the that you get a Mondeo size car complete with a high tech rear live axle.

Rover - As above with some wood and cream leather seats.

Triumph seems the most obvious brand to revive as a sports car; might I suggest Riley for a rival to Audi.

Two brands that strike me as impossible to re-invent successfully are Hillman and Wolsley, or am I too pessimistic about them?

My first car was a 1936 Wolseley, but I've never heard of a Wolsley ;-)

They made socks. Wore them to school IIRC.

Perhaps its because the names sound too 'old fashioned' alfalfa?

Maybe Alfa Romeo should tune into the Beetle/Mini 'nostalgia pastiche' market with a new Alfasud - minus the rust, of course :-)

Mick Snutz    on 26 June 2009

Could the MiTo be the new Alfasud?

I'd like to see the King Dick make a comeback (spanners to you!)

I don't think Riley sounds 'cool' enough. What about Alvis instead.

IMCDb.org lists well over 2,000 car makes. Of course there's some overlap (e.g. Packard becoming 'Clipper', formerly the name of the entry-level Packard range).

Anyway, Reo, anyone? Bugatti Bucolic for these austere times, or a Hispano-Suiza Swizzle, an electric runabout?

steveincornwall    on 26 June 2009

1- Alldays and Onions.
2-Skinners Union.
3-Bean.

Just for the silliness really :-)
Steve.

Trabant - fitted with Dyson's new 106,000 rpm electric motor instead of the stinking poisonous old 2 stroke. A car for the people!

Mick Snutz    on 26 June 2009

it could vacuum the roads as it went.

You'll need the treble extension hose for the Devon potholes!
