Those who knew believed that the rated 165hp never was achieved even at the factory exit gate. Those who had them with 30,000 or so miles and put them on a dynamometer knew that 125hp was a more likely outcome. Flat top end that limited top-end performance. Thanking you Honest John, I had a 1998 Mk1 Fiat Punto 60s. I had lowered it by using a Gmax 40mm kit all round. Fitted 7x15 fox alloys with 195x 55 Yoko's got myself a 16v head off of a Punto that had saw a hedge or two. Got a tubular banana branched manifold to a SS 3.5i Peco exhaust. It was fun for over eight years. Bought a Fiat Stilo in 2004, and used the punto at weekends, until 2012. Kept it until 2019 and Covalent time came, mot ran out in 2012. Sold it in April 2020 (thanks to your assistance) to a fellow Fiat nut, who was going to put a Fiat coupe 16v Turbo engine and gearbox into it. He didn't tax and Mot'd it, for two years, then stuck it through a fence, then field, rolled it on its side. Now gone to the parts yard in the sky. I remember a test with the Toyota Landcruiser and others in its heyday where it was the only one that could traverse up a sand dune. It won hands down and was very much underrated compared to the Landcruiser and others. Read more
It's the 'thinkers' Landcruiser. Huge following outside landrover obsessed UK. 60's and 70's models worth big money in the states already. A beast.
It makes you wonder what is going on here. Was there a long-term plan to preserve this MGB for investment purposes, or was the car's ownership in some way dysfunctional right from the start?
