If you're after a Ford specialist to tackle the restoration for you, then we'd recommend contacting the club (www.mk2cortina-1600e.co.uk/contact-us) - the specialist you want may not be local, but might be worth it. Be sure to cross-check it against our Good Garage Guide (good-garage-guide.honestjohn.co.uk/). At the end of the day, you need to think about what's right for you. How will you get the car there? Do you want something near to you? Is quality of work more important than cost? Are you in a rush to get the car back?

The quality of garages can fluctuate as staff come and go. Make a shortlist of the ones you like and make an appointment to go and see the garage. Ask to see examples of their work. Speak to owners who've had their cars restored there - any garage that is proud of its work should be more than happy to spend some time with you. Ultimately, you'll need to ask if you can work with this business for a decent amount of time - body and paintwork can be a bumpy process with many twists and turns. If the garage has more work than it can cope with, is hard to get hold of, or makes a mountain out of a molehill, then they may not be the right garage for you.
