Insuring a modern in place of a classic

I've been driving classics and future classics for years but now I need a sensible car in place of one of them. I've got a Lotus Esprit S4 and Porsche 924 Turbo. I was looking at swapping the 924 for something more modern and practical. I was looking at BMW 525i as there are loads of them and they seem pretty cheap. The problem I have is my NCB has long since expired and I'm finding moderns horribly expensive to insure.

Can you suggest a way around the NCB problem? Alternatively can you recommend something classic and practical - I was considering a Merc 190 or older BMW but I'm concerned about buying a rot box! The Galvanized 924 has spoiled me...

Talk to Mike Forrestall: mforrestall@norton-ib.co.uk They do trade, classic and standard policies. Alternatively, a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.6 is the one to go for. The 6-cylinder car. Don't buy one with stainless steel wheelarch embellishers because the arches will be rotten underneath. Also look for rot around the D pillar air vents.
