Is my classic car tax exempt if it was built three years before being registered?

My car was built in December 1980 but only registered in the UK in 1983, so is it eligible for exemption?

If your car was built before 1 January 1981, it’ll be exempt from vehicle tax from April 2021. If you don’t know when your car was built but you know it was registered before 8 January 1981, the same rule applies. This exemption is rolling, too - so from 2022, the dates will change to include cars registered in 1982. Remember that you must tax your vehicle even if you don't have to pay as well.
