Maser-ratty?

As I am now retired and only drive about 8,000-10,000 miles a year I would like to spoil myself with a second hand Luxury or Classic Car. I have been very impressed with the understated style and price of second-hand Maseratis. I have seen quite a number with low mileage up to £35,000. I have however been told by an acquaintance who is in the Motor Trade that they are known to be very unreliable, are of poor quality build and need constant tuning. As I am not mechanical in any way this has put me off. Can you let me know if his opinion is true, as they do look excellent value?

One of my mates runs a Y reg Maserati 3200 auto and it has been no
trouble. He loves it. Paid about £12k.
