Why are 2CVs so expensive to buy?

A friend of mine likes the 2CV and he thinks they are reliable. Is this true? Why are they they also expensive to buy?

The Citroen 2CV is a beautifully simple car to own and enjoy. It was designed to help 1930s France get motoring, especially farmers and those living in rural areas (hence the long travel suspension). Bodywork is simple and the mechanicals are robust with the air-cooled engine requiring minimal maintenance. Rust is the main 2CV killer, so make sure any potential purchase has plenty of good metal left. Still extremely usable today, the 2CV is charming and therefore desirable. The most expensive variant is the twin-engined Sahara, but you don't have to go crazy. You should be able to get a good 2CV for £5000 - less if you're handy with the spanners and have the time to put in and bring it up to scratch. Parts availability is excellent and there is a very active scene around the much-loved 'tin snail'.
