New TVR is ‘sold out’ for 2017

Published 27 August 2015

Car maker TVR has taken more than 250 deposits for its new sports car, making the first production run of the new car in 2017 a sell out.

Just six weeks after opening the order book, the company says that all the models due to roll off the production line in 2017 have been sold.

Interested buyers could put down a £5000 deposit, while a limited number of reduced £2500 deposits were available for TVR Car Club club members.

We still don’t know the name of the car or what it might look like - but we do know TVR is working with Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth Engineering on the new model.

John Chasey, TVR operations director, says the company is on a 'rollercoaster' ride at the moment.

He said, ‘We began to take deposits in June purely because we had so much clear demand and potential customers wanted to know when they could commit and when they might expect delivery.

‘The new factory will be ramping up production during 2017 and therefore initial volumes are limited, but here we are only a few weeks later announcing this remarkable order take, so it’s only fair to make potential customers aware that any new orders will now be delivered in early 2018.’

Les Edgar, TVR chairman, is conscious that deposits have been taken from customers who have not even yet seen ‘official’ pictures of the car but promised the new car would exceed expectations.

‘Nevertheless people have been prepared to part with a substantial sum on the basis of what we have been able to openly convey about the project, and on the strength of the partnerships that we have formed with Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth Engineering,’ he said.
