A New Vehicle From Land Rover

12 September 1989

NEW YORK TIMES

Land Rover, the British-based maker of workhorse rural vehicles, will introduce a new off-road four-wheel-drive model Tuesday that it said cost more than $150 million to develop. The Discovery, making its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, will compete against such Japanese vehicles as the Mitsubishi Shogun, the Isuzu Trooper and the Nissan Patrol.

The vehicle is scheduled to go on sale in Britain and Italy in November and will be introduced in other important European markets next year. Land Rover, which recently became a subsidiary of British Aerospace when that company took over the Rover Group, has not announced prices for the Discovery.
