4,000 JOBS IN STORE AT ROVER
By David Benson

A major £100-million investment creating up to 4,000 new jobs was announced yesterday by the Rover Group. The company has applied to build a giant shopping and leisure centre on the site of the former Leyland truck plant at Bathgate, near Edinburgh.

Rover Group chairman Mr Graham Day, said "The Rover Group, having inherited the Bathgate problem, is not disposing of it. We remain committed to the community and will contribute by this project to its future prosperity."

The development, if planning permission is approved, will provide a completely covered, air-conditioned two-storey complex, one-third of a mile long, with major stores, a cinema, swimming pool and ice rink. The site will be the largest of its kind in Scotland.
