BLMC men vote to stay out at Longbridge

12 November 1971

By R. W. Shakespeare
Northern Industrial Correspondent

The 120 engine assemblers who have been on strike at the British Leyland car plant at Longbridge, Birmingham since October 1st, decided at a mass meeting yesterday to continue their stoppage for another week. The strike, over a claim for higher piecework rates, which has been rejected by the management has stopped production of the 1800 and MGB cars and caused 2600 assembly workers at five separate centres to be laid off.

Production worth more than £10m has been lost.
