Threat To New Car

In an attempt to end a dispute at Cowley , Oxford , which is threatening production of British Leyland’s secret car , the ADO28 , the company are expected to seek urgent talks. Assembly workers at Cowley a new ‘measured day rate’ system which gives them a fixed wage of £40 a week e, better overtime, and holiday pay.

But 160 men on ADO28 body production at a factory nearby are holding out against the deal because they want to keep the piece-work system.

At Triumph Motors, Coventry, 1800 men were laid off yesterday after an unofficial stoppage by 300 assembly workers . The strikers , who claim they are getting £2 a week less than other fitters , will go back to work on Monday .
