THE GUARDIAN

At Cowley, a recommendation from local union officials for a resumption of work after a six week strike by 1,150 assembly workers was approved at a meeting by a narrow majority The stoppage is estimated to have cost British Leyland Motors about £10 millions in lost production.

The strike, which was officially supported by two of the unions concerned , was a protest by assembly workers employed on the Morris Minor 1000. They said their earnings would fall when the model isphased out of production soon.
