Pilkington Glass strike

Repercussions of the strike continue to be felt in the car industry. As 500 men returned to work at the Land-Rover plant in Solihull after being laid off because of another dispute, 300 others were laid off because of shortage of glass from Pilkington's These workers were from the Rover production lines.

Work on the BMC Maxi has stopped at Cowley, and another dispute at a haulage company in Swindon is affecting production of BMC's 1100 and 1300 cars. Altogether, 2,000 workers are hit by the disputes.
