Coventry strike vote critical to Leyland

15 May 1969

By CLIFFORD WEBB,
Midlands Industrial Correspondent

Ten internal truck drivers meet this afternoon to vote on whether or not to call off the week old strike which has shut Pressed Steel Fisher's car body plant at Coventry and left British Leyland assembly plants at Abingdon and Cowley dangerously short of body panels.

One thousand men are already laid off at Coventry. Production of the groups best selling M.G.B. sports car has been at a standstill for several days. Yesterday 120 M.G.B. assemblers who had been found alternative work on other sports cars at Abingdon were laid off until further notice.
