Jags go on night shift

25 February 1969

DAILY EXPRESS

Jaguar Cars have started night shifts on all their assembly tracks for the first time in 46 years to meet increasing demand both at home and abroad. Sir William Lyons, Jaguar's chairman and a deputy chairman of British Leyland, said: "Night shifts will enable the company to raise its production target from 693 units to 825 units per week."

About 1,600 workers were made idle yesterday at Rover's main factory at Solihull (near Birmingham) because of a strike by 600 men at the firm's Cardiff plant which produces gearboxes and transmissions.
