Oxford Car Delivery Men Strike

Car delivery drivers in Oxford went on strike today in support of a claim for a 42-hour five-day week with overtime pay.  They are members of the Transport and General Workers' Union, to which about 450 drivers in Oxford belong, and they deliver new cars from Morris Motors at Cowley and from the M.G. Car Company at Abingdon to dlstributors and to the docks.

The drivers earn 5s. 3d. an hour and claim to work an average of more than 60 hours a week. They have rejected an offer of a basic rate of 4s. 9d.. a 42-hour week spread over six days with overtime pay, and a guaranteed minimum wage of 10 guineas.
