Personnel Job For Union Official

In June a man who was a shop steward and is now an official of the Transport and General Workers' Union will become personnel officer at the Rover Company's new factory at Pengam, Cardiff.

The company announced at its main factory at Solihull, Warwickshire, today that Mr. Leslie C. Payne will become personnel officer at the Welsh factory, which although in production has not yet been officially opened. Mr Payne was a shop steward for 10 years before he became a full-time union official four years ago, with special responsibilities for union members at car factories in the Birmingham area, including the Rover factories.

Mr Payne, the T.&G.W. U.'s Birmingham district organizer, said: "I shall now be on the management side of the fence and although it was a difficult decision for a person. like myself with deep roots in the trade union movement. I am happy about the appointment."
