Jaguar men decide to stay out

9 February 1962

FROM OUR MIDLAND CORRESPONDENT
BIRMINGHAM, FEB. 8

An investigation into the damage the strike at Jaguar Cars Ltd., Coventry, will do to the firm's production schedules began today. The inquiry will be the more painful because no one yet knows when the strike is likely to end. At a meeting today the 4,500 strikers approved a shop stewards' recommendation that they should not resume work until the company dismissed two men who had worked during the engineering strike on Monday.

The company's dilemma is not only that dollar orders worth £22,500,000 are in danger. Big export orders to Europe also have to be filled and like the American orders these also often carry strict clauses about delivery dates.
