5-Day Week Again For Some Car Workers

5 February 1961

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
OXFORD, FEB. 2

There will be a five-day week again for several hundred workers at the Cowley factory of the Pressed Steel Co.-which makes car bodies-starting from next Monday.

"Because of an increase in schedules for certain customers we have been able to put the production lines for those particular models back on five days", a company official said today.

"How long the improvement will last we just don't know. It could be that this is the first indication of a turning point, but we would not care to forecast it", he added.

About 7,000 Pressed Steel workers have been on a three-day or four-day week since before Christmas.
