Rover strike ended

7 November 1959

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT
BIRMINGHAM, Nov. 6

Normal working was resumed today at the Edgbaston branch factory of the Rover Company Ltd., where 25 sheet metal workers held an unofficial sit-down strike lasting two days because their shop steward was refused time off to take his car to be serviced. The strike was called off to allow talks to be held between the management and officials of the Birmingham and Midland Sheet Metal Workers Society.

A joint statement after this meeting said: "The views of both sides were freely ventilated and a full understanding has now been reached.
