1000 sent home at Morris works

24 April 1959

About 1,000 workers at Morris Motors Limited, Cowley, were sent home at midday today because 300 men in the paint shop stopped work.

They complained that material in a spraying process on particular lines is too hard to rub down. Production of the Morris Oxford, M.G. Magnette, Riley 4/68, and Wolseley 15/60 was halted.

The Morris Minor 1000 line was not affected. The men sent home have been told to report for work as usual tomorrow. The 300 men who stopped work will be recommended to go back in the morning pending negotiations.
