Need a nearly new car with lots of boot space for £16k

I am looking to buy a nearly new car; ideally an SUV, which I intend to keep for 10 years. My current car is a 2005 Volkswagen Passat diesel. I need plenty of boot space and a bit of punch when it comes to performance. My budget is up to £16k and I would be grateful for any suggestions you may have. I do 6000 miles a year and am unsure if I should go for a petrol or diesel.

Unless you will be doing 20,000 miles a year, maintenance and repair costs on an already 2nd hand diesel are likely to greatly outweigh any savings on fuel.
