Volkswagen diesel engine problems following emissions scandal fix

We had owned two Volkswagen Tiguans and two Passats with the 2.0 TDI. The youngest 2012 Tiguan has just has the emissions fix done and it seems down on power. It is holding onto lower gears in the auto box when it would have changed up and drops down a gear at 70mph on long slight inclines.

Both are new characteristics and the engine sounds more strained. We have just been to a Country Show on short grass and parked on a hill and there was a smell like hot or burning clutch which again is new. Car has done 33500 miles and is booked for an annual service.

The 2.0 TDI engine of the older 2008 Tiguan has not been updated and while it is a noisier unit it has none of these issues. Have others noticed a change following the emissions update and has fuel economy suffered materially?

Yours is the 8th report of problems after the emissions defeat remap on Tiguans, all logged here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/tiguan-20.../ Obviously don't have the older car done until VWG has fixed the fix. Your car has a twin wet clutch DSG so you should not smell the clutch plates burning. You might be smelling the DPF actively regenerating. My suggestion to all Tiguan owners is to try the cars on higher cetane diesel such as Shell V-Power Nitro Plus diesel of BP Ultimate diesel. I think the fix reduces the fuelling so a higher cetane fuel might compensate fort this. I don't know for sure. I'm just suggesting what I would try in the circumstances.
