How can I fix a blocked windscreen washer?

Can I put something into the washer bottle in my Ford S-Max that may unblock the windscreen washers? They have stopped working and I was wondering if there's some kind of flushing agent I can use?

What I do is get a hosepipe, hold it so the end is right at the bottom of the washer reservoir, then get someone to turn the tap on full. That should blast out any crud that has accumulated on the gauze filter in the bottom of the reservoir. However, another answer is to use Milton baby bottle sterilising fluid, at a much greater concentration than you would use for babies bottles.
