How can I extend the life of my Clio?

My wife's 2006 Renault Clio 1.5 diesel has covered 80,000 miles and recently suffered fuel pump failure. A new fuel pump and sensor, plus reconditioned injectors have cost us about £1500. We had been hoping to replace it next year, but this hole in our finances means that we will have to keep it for at least two more years. What can we do to help ensure it will stay reliable for another couple of years?

Use Shell V-Power Nitro Plus diesel. Will give better economy (that actually pays back the increased price) and keep the pump and the fuel system in good condition. Also change the engine oil and filter every 10,000 miles. That bloke who commutes every day from Essex to South Wales does it in a Clio diesel.
