Vauxhall Corsa warning light - what's the fault?

I own a 2003 Vauxhall Corsa and there are two rubber breather hoses attached to the engine; the smaller of which snapped off at the point where it connects to the engine. A mechanic told me that this didn't really matter and didn't need urgently fixing so I have left it.

However, recently my 'exhaust emission warning light' (according to the manual) has come on, and I was wondering if there may be a connection between the two issues?

As a further twist, the radiator fan has been behaving strangely -it now operates at full speed/races all the time even though the engine is clearly not overheating. What’s going on?

The warning light issue is probably related to the hose problem. The failed breather pipe has altered the fuel/air mixture and affected the Lambda sensor. The radiator fan is probably unrelated and probably because the temp sensor switch screwed into the water jacket of the block has jammed, permanently switching the fan motor on.
