My Audi A4 is suffering a DPF fault - what is causing it?

I drive a three-year-old Audi A4 TDI and cover 85 miles each day to and from my place of work. My total annual mileage is roughly 28,000. On 5 November I drove my car from cold about a mile and went shopping. I went back to my car, drove it about half a mile and the DPF warning light came on, and the display suggested I refer to the car's handbook. I did notice that whilst the display was showing the car suffered a loss of power and the maximum speed I could obtain was about 60mph. I referred to the cars handbook, drove it as suggested and the warning light went of, the car performed normally but the emission control system light stayed on. Tonight the DPF warning light came on again and the car lost a little power. With the mileage I cover I did not expect to have this problem. What do you think?

It's getting clogged and not regenerating properly, maybe because the ambient temperature is now colder. You might not be using enough revs or it might be the fuel you are using. Try it on Shell V-Power diesel or BP Ultimate diesel for a couple of months. The second incident was probably the engine using extra diesel to actively regenerate the DPF, but it isn’t normal to suffer a performance drop and a warning light when this happens.
