Banging Fiesta suspension

My back wheel on the driver's side - there is a banging sound coming from it, checked spring etc. but can't see anything wrong. Seems to be worse when on a uneven road. Car is an 02 Fiesta.

Probably a failed damper, but might be a broken spring, broken at an end so no longer clipped into its retaining shoe.
