We got 53.3mpg from our Citroen C3 automatic, which is also comfortable and easy to enter.

I can agree with your answer to the gentleman who wanted a comfortable car for his wife. We have a Citroen C3 1.6VTI Executive automatic that is very comfortable and easy to get into as it is a bit higher than the Rover we had before. We have just been to Cornwall and back and the onboard computer showed that we got 53.3 miles to the gallon, having set the cruise control at 65mph. That we think is very good now that petrol prices are so high.

That is very good indeed and proves that the high overall gearing of an automatic can be of benefit on a long motorway run.
