Tie rod end
At 52,000 miles and after replacing the front springs following breakage I noticed a thump when crossing speed bumps.
The Mecedes-Benz dealership who carried out the work said it was a worn out tie rod end due to wear and tear and quoted me £400 to replace them.
As a sympathetic driver with about 50 years driving experience and endorsed by the fact that there is still half the life left in the original brake pads I feel they're pulling my leg. Are they?

If, as suggested, the MB dealer is saying the tie rod bushes are worn then I think you would have to accept that they are.
