Do petrol cars have particulate filter problems?

I've thinking of changing my car, one possible buy is a Vauxhall Corsa. On looking through the technical specifications on the dealer's website for a 22 plate car it states the cars have particulate filters. This is with petrol engines. Does this mean that problems could arise if the car is only used for short trips like diesel powered vehicles?

All new petrol cars have a particulate filter (which captures harmful particles and then burns them off as part of its regeneration cycle).

We don't get many complaints about petrol particulate filters, partly due to the fact the temperate to burn off the gathered material is lower than that of diesel particulate filters.
