Rally legend set for MG Car Club stand

Published 31 October 2016

A true racing legend will be on display on the MG Car Club's stand at the Classic Motor Show. Tony Pond’s MG Metro 6R4 will be showcased on the club’s stand at the NEC show on 11–13 November. As an icon of 1980s Group B rallying, the Metro 6R4 fits well into the ‘heroes and heroines’ theme at this year’s show.

Despite arriving late to the party in 1985, the 6R4 left a lasting impression on the Group B rally era, mainly due to its striking appearance. And the car is hot off the press, featuring in October’s Safety Fast! - the club’s monthly magazine.

'We’re delighted to be able to showcase such a special car at this year’s Classic Motor Show,' said Club General Manager Adam Sloman. 'For many MG fans including myself, the 6R4 holds fond memories of such a memorable era of rallying – and it fits this year’s theme perfectly.'

Featuring the classic Computervision livery, the club hopes such a unique car will attract not just MG enthusiasts, but visitors who may not have seen the car before.

'Every MG we have on the stand this year is a hero to the marque, and the 6R4 is no exception. We’re delighted with the line-up this year, and we’re sure everyone will be too when they see it,' Adam added.

Tony Pond’s MG Metro 6R4 will be joined on the club’s stand by Wheeler Dealer Mike Brewer’s MGA, and Louise Allen’s MG ZR (pictured below), among others that will be revealed in the coming weeks. The club’s stand (5-80) will be located in Hall 4.
